Ray Dinsmore
Raymond M. Dinsmore, a member of the Circumnavigators Club since 1947, was awarded the Order of Magellan for his foresight to establish a foundation that would benefit college students and future leaders of the world. The Circumnavigators Foundation was established in 1964 with the aim of furthering the Club’s mission to make the world a better place through friendship and understanding.
Mr. Dinsmore served the Club as member of the Board of Governors and International President from 1956-1959. He served as President of the Foundation from 1968-1974. Beginning in 1971, the Foundation began its Around-the-World Tavel-Study Program that has allowed more than 100 students to circumnavigate the globe to study and promote global understanding.
By profession, Mr. Dinsmore was a real estate developer during the 1930s. He retired at the age of 37, and began traveling the world with his wife, Grace. He had a love of photography and filmmaking. Club members and friends spent many an evening visiting distant parts of the world with Ray Dinsmore narrating.
He died in 1987 at the age of 87 in Atlantis, Florida.
